Real account balances
The five real accounts are Salary, Household, Savings, Cash Envelopes (EUR), and Tunisia (TND). An opening balance is a snapshot; it does not create an income or expense transaction. Each recorded income increases the chosen account; an expense reduces it. Transfers subtract from the sending account and add to the receiving account. Transfers between EUR and TND use the exchange rate entered for that movement.
Allocated money is not an extra account
Mom's money, savings goals and yearly bill reserves are allocations inside real accounts. Reserving money in the same account changes what is available to spend, not its real balance. Moving money to a different account changes both real balances. Never add allocations to the account balance again: that would double-count assets.
Saving for a goal
Already saved is an opening allocation backed by existing funds. A goal with €0 initially saved and no recorded contributions shows €0 saved. New contributions increase the goal allocation; the destination account is credited only when different from the source account. Gold and anticipated Cometa are displayed separately in the Italy house estimate, not as bank cash.
Yearly bills: motorcycle insurance example
Configure Motorcycle insurance in Settings → Expenses → Yearly expenses, choose the account where its reserve is held, and record contributions when you set money aside. When you pay the insurer, go to Expenses → Input expenses → Yearly expense payment, choose Motorcycle insurance, enter the amount, and select the account actually charged. The app debits that account and reduces the reserve only if the payment came from the reserve account. The payment appears in the complete transaction history and Yearly Status.
Tunisia mortgage
First transfer EUR to Tunisia if funding the payment from Italy; this is not an expense. Then record the mortgage payment in TND, which debits the Tunisia account. The mortgage remaining-principal estimate is a separate value updated from a lender statement; a monthly installment includes interest and must not automatically be treated as principal reduction. EUR equivalents are estimates using the configured rate.
Corrections, deletion and backups
Deleting a reversible transaction restores its account and allocation effects. Editing an opening balance directly does not reconstruct past transactions, so keep a JSON backup before making corrections. Imported older transactions may be protected from automatic reversal. Check account balances against bank statements after every import.
Private database sync
The app works locally by default. Optional Supabase sync requires a configured project, authentication, and Row Level Security. Do not paste bank passwords or a Supabase service-role key. Before enabling sync, export a JSON backup and follow DATABASE-DEPLOYMENT.md. Cloud writes use a revision check. If both devices change data concurrently, the second save is blocked rather than silently overwriting the first. Export the local backup to resolve conflicts.
